The deployment of mixed reality during normal production, i.e. standard production with mixed reality, is the next step up from training.
However, the application is slightly different. The glasses can show the operator a detailed standard workflow and basic production data. However, beyond this, they can also supply additional information, for example, on standard fulfilment, alerting to production changes or the imminent replacement of empty bins. They can also provide the worker with valuable general or safety information.
For appropriate work activities, the glasses may display an email client, communication programs, or other applications as part of work benefits.
The worker is guided through a standard process by this tool, motivated to perform consistently, kept informed of what is happening around them or rewarded on an ongoing basis.
This area of augmented reality is still nascent, but standardization is a huge issue in any manufacturing process. Eliminating human factor inventions is absolutely key in some phases of production. A significant limitation here is the weight of powerful headsets. But at the same time, this is an area that needs to be continually explored, as it will be the most cost-effective of those in the future.
